name: hope chest
"hope chest" is typically a chest used to collect items, by unmarried young women in anticipation of married life in Turkey. traditionally, contents of a hope chest included typical dowry items such as clothing (especially a special dress), table linens, towels, bed linens, quilts and occasionally dish-ware. as a bride would typically leave home on marriage, hope chests were sometimes made with an eye to portability, albeit infrequently. in some regions of Anatolia, the hope chests was given to a bride at her wedding day.
my starting point in this project was to design an object that allowed for the usage of both forms of hope chest , and the common turkish motif "tulip" together. this new interpretation of the “hope chest” concept merges modernization of the shape and symbolization of the new beginnings of a new life.
